Question learning java

I've taken it upon myself to learn a new technology and i've chosen java because i want to learn to work with AJAX.

I've downloaded the following tools to help me on my quest...

Eclipse SDK for creating my java code and projects

The Java EE 5 SDK for Windows to run my local server and java code and i also downloaded the documentation for Java EE 5 SDK

Is there anything else that i need?

I've managed to install both applications pretty easily and created my 'hello world' first java application and things look good.

Any hints or tips that any Java coders have for me?

I've got a book from my uni days called Beginning Java 2 and it revolves around using the JDK 1.3 Edition. Will everything in there still be relevant for Java EE 5 SDK?

most things from the 1.3 sdk wil still hold true but if you are unsure about something just look up the class on the java site and you'll get the relevant information. The java site is good for that, it can be used as a massive reference book.
