For anyone who isn't familiar with this software it's a great free alternative to Microsoft Office and is continually updated through the Open Source development community.

Mike the jump in quality and Gui from OO.o 1.1 to 2 was huge.

Saw this the other day at work so will d/l this update now

If anyone needs any reason to use this other than "its not microsoft office" you can open files and export to PDF. It does a pretty good job too, much better than CutePdf or any other free Pdf generator.

Office 2007 Beta is only free for a period of time though.

I have to admit the ability to export pdf's is probably my favourite thing about Open Office.

Beta will stop working when it goes Gold. What is it like anyway? i've not installed it yet as i don't trust it. Plus the release date has been pushed back to 2007 for business and public and apparently big businesses will get it at the end of 2006.

i like it. not sure exactly when it stops working though. Vista beta2 stops working june07. The UI is pretty different, keeps going the same way as 2003 went. I don't actually use office that much but love Outlook.

I'll get the new openoffice soon, but the download was like 5kbps the other day so i thoght i'd leave it a while.

I've got an older version of Open Office, for the PDF exporter. It's excellent as a replacement for Word.

Needs an equivilent to frontpage though.
