Firefox problem...

Firefox has deleted all my favourites, +I can't work out for the life of me why.

It's happened before, wondering if anyone else has a scooby?

never happened to me but i would have a look around in the folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random letters>.default

that's where the bookmarks file is saved, it's just an HTML file and there should be a backup or 2 there as well. copy them all to somewhere else and then just rename each of them to bookmarks.html and see if you get your bookmarks back.

Also, if there's more than one folder in the profiles folder, try moving the .default to another one and see if it's randomly created a new profile for you.

My guess is that it crashed at some point, and when you tried to start it up again it said "default profile is in use", and made another profile. Now it's using the new profile, but all your favourites are stored in the old profile.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to switch profiles... Rebellius's suggestion should work though.

What he says^

There used to be a file called bookmarks.html as well, not sure where it wa stored. The only time Ive had similar is where my Profile has become corrupt and I had to create a new one, I pointed faves to the bookmarks.html file which still existed.

What version are you using? If you can get teh number 1.5.4 build (298) or whatever i'll trawl the bug database to see if theres anything similar reported and if so a solution to it.

Oh my. Confusion reigns.

I'm using version 1.5.0.4. Whatever that means.

It has crashed on me, but I've never had any error messages about profiles. I never even knew they existed.

I found bookmarks.html in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile, but there were no backups.

I am even more confused than I started off : )

that's the default bookmarks file for a new profile - try looking in
C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<random letters>.default

in explorer you might need to go to Tools>>Folder Options>>View and enable Show hidden files to be able to see the Application Data folder.

You do, it's just hidden. If you do what Rebellius suggested, then you can enable viewing of hidden files.
