mp3 player assistance needed.

So, I finally got round to buying myself a new mp3 player, my old one had been acting up for ages; it's nothing fancy or huge (just 2gb), mainly cos I'm skint. It's just one where I can drag and drop the files I want so no software needs to be installed or anything.

Anyways, tonight when I was putting songs onto it, after I'd done a whole bunch, it decided to say "Cannot copy X : The directory or file cannot be created". This is somewhat confusing because if I delete a song from the ones I've put on already it'll let me add another one, however, I've certainly not filled all the space, only like 39% or something. It's also confusing because this happened towards the end of the life of my old mp3 player.

So aye, any suggestions as to why this is happening? And how to get round it? I've not got nearly all the songs I want on it!

The_Mechanix is an unknown quantity at this point
i've read about this happening before with flash drives. if it was bought online it may be the same problem, people are using small amounts of memory yet programming it to show more than that to sell them on sites like ebay and such. if this happened theres not anything you can do about it except try and get your money back, which is unlikely to happen.

heres a link to a similar thing.

they allow a download program to check if it is a dodgy drive.

try formatting it and starting again, sometimes mine requires that just to show it has the drive space it's supposed to...

What's the make/model?

Google yields potentially helpful results but you'd need to check your specific model to see if it's a known problem. I had a similar problem with a USB1 tiny memstick mp3/flash drive (256MB) with Explorer drag and drop, can't remember how it was fixed though.

e: forgot to add link
