Anyone see the report on Sky News about Second Life having hidden sorded sex areas? Apparently there is an area in Second Life called Wonderland that promotes pedophilia where there are avatars made to look like children. Just listening to the interview with two of the creators talking about how they are not a police force and completely bypassing all responsibility for what goes on in Second Life, which I think is pretty fucked up. I'm not sure how second life works, I tried it out once at it was the single most disappointing online experience i've ever had, but there are areas open to everyone on Second Life that are so blatent I'm wondering how people get away with creating stuff like that, be it real life or not.

I find it strange that people are surprised by this kinda thing going on in these virtual worlds, i mean msn chat was shut down for the same kinda thing, the likes of second life is just like a chat room taken to the next step and it doesnt really seem like there are any restrictions to stop these things happening.

Second Life is basically a haven for creepy perverts, especially furries, having cyber sex with their creepy, creepy animal avatars.

I have no idea why businesses and the media are taking Second Life so seriously, rather than seeing it for what it is.

It's a piece of shit. Tbh the only people that really use it are folk in the tech industry, other randoms and the people described by humndislocation in his last post.

Exactally.
I for one would rather that if people are going to fantasize about molesting children then they do just that. At the end of the day, if it's keeping them away from child pornography websites then great.

You could say it might lead to more extreme actions by the potential pedophile but thats like saying gta might make teens murder.

Not exactly the same, but, aye, it's similar. It's more like saying someone who fantasises about being in Grand Theft Auto might become a murderer.
Paedophiles can wank all over whatever they want as far as I'm concerned, as long as no-one is being directly or indirectly hurt.
When they cross the "hurting someone" line, that's when you bang them up. Anything else would be pre-emptive justice and akin to punishing "thoughtcrime".
