Mac Help
I have a pretty decent idea of what is causing the ruckus with my mac at the moment but I would like a confirm/deny from someone who knows. Basically whenever I try and update anything I am asked to enter my username and password yeah? Well, it no longer works and I think it might be due to the fact I installed leopard and its not mine really. I borrowed my flat mate's copy and installed that waiting on some 'you must pay now' dialogue to appear, which never did so I just started using it.
Anyway, can anyone tell me whether this is standard stuff from apple, having not installed an authorised OS? I have obviously checked to make sure my username is correct and I can change my password in system preferences so I know its not that. |

Apple doesn't have a serial number as far as I'm aware on it's OS, so I doubt that Leopard is 'phoning home'.
Have the security settings been defaulted to a higher setting perhaps? |

The mac no longer works or your login details no longer work when prompted?

Perhaps they've reset or something when the upgrade was done? Have you googled to see how to fix it?

its weird because I never used to have to enter my username, it was there automatically. Now I have to enter it and although it is exactly the same as it is in accounts and is the admin account still no joy.

The solution to this problem has presented itself. Apparently Leopard has a bug which changes the account of some mac users from admin to default making my username and password redundant. I know how to fix this problem, but it requires Leopard installation discs which I have lost
Can you help me? If someone could let me borrow their discs I would be eternally grateful and would of course send them back with a cheque to cover postage + a lil summin summin for your trouble. Anyone? |
