iTunes is doing my head in!
Does anyone know how to transfer video's to the iPod touch?!
I've tried it several times, but it wipes all the audio I already had on it. It takes ages to transfer it all back on aswell. I had about 900mb of space left, and the video was only just over 300mb. I still cant figure out how to even get it on the iPod. I've tried to sync it up, and then select the movie, but nothing happens. I've also tried dragging the file directly into the movies section of my iPod, again, nothing happens. It's an mp4 file aswell! Help! |

I've got one of those pricey (at least at the time) 30Gb iPod videos and its main use atm is a book end for DVDs.
I don't think iTunes supports mp4... they definately don't do that weird unheard of format known as AVI. If you google iPod or iTunes and MP4 then you should be able to get some conversion software. Then in iTunes there's an option (right click when in library?) that converts it for an iPod. Then you can sync it up via iTunes. If you haven't guessed, I'm no iFan. Especially when iTunes renamed 500 of my favourite songs to track01, track02 etc, duplicated my library, incorrectly renamed songs and so forth. The greatest iMoment was when iTunes crashed when doing a sync and my iPod didn't work any more and iTunes wouldn't load / re-install. I've got Linux now and some of the software supports the iPod quite well with less of the bizarre errors. ![]() In conclusion, iTunes does my head in too... but you should be able to find a converter on the net and try converting to iPod format in iTunes.. [edit: "duplicated my library, incorrectly renamed songs and so forth."... The CDDB or w/e has had the odd mistake and the frigging thing kept undoing my corrections, or changing album names for half an album adding [UK] etc] Last edited by RealR : 24th February 2008 at 04:00 AM. |

All honesty, I thought iTunes would be better giving how popular it was. I like the way Windows Media Player deals with things, aside from using Album Artist instead of Artist to sort songs.

iTunes can be infuriating.
I have seen worse attempts at this sort of thing though, with other mp3 players. I havent had any major problems but theres always some niggley small problem at some stage. |

iTunes+iPod+Mac=No Problems Whatsoever
iTunes+iPod+PC=No Problems Whatsoever Unless You Are A Retard. Always tell iTunes you'll manually manage your library. |

I have an 80gb iPod and an 80gb HD in my laptop....allowing iTunes to autosync would just cause me to a) have to have all 11100 tracks on my iPod on my computer as well, or b) have fuck all songs on my iPod. I back up to an external drive using Senuti once a month, keeping newly added music on the MacBook (as a buffer zone) until that backup is done. That way I only have 5gb of music on my computer, maintain (currently) 65gb of music on my iPod, and have the whole thing completely backed up.
It's the only way to be sure your music is safe. As for renaming issues....I've never had that problem at all. |

Personally I prefer Windows Media player, as you can set it to watch a set of folders, and automatically add or remove mp3s from the library, something you can't do with I-tunes at the moment. (Or at least as far as I am aware)
As of version 11, media player has started to get a bit clunky though. |

As for not monitoring folders, I can see why they would miss that feature out. If you're obtaining all your music legally, they might reasonably expect you to be ripping all your music with iTunes from discs or buying it from iTunes. Saying that, all you need to do is drag a folder onto your itunes window and it'll add any music in the folder to your library ![]() |
