I use Azureus, with all the fancy stuff turned off. Seems to do the trick.
I have noticed that pretty much all torrent programs I've tried thoroughly twat my connection and cause everything else to crawl along. |

I have mine limited to 10kb/s upload without a top limit for downloads. Even with downloads coming in at 20-30kb/s the web slows down noticeably.
Might be an Azureus issue, but I don't worry cos I don't use if more than a couple of times a week. |

I use Transmission for Mac. I used to use Azureus and this is much better. Doesn't slow anything down. Not noticeably, anyway. |

I have transmission installed, just haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
