The OU is a good idea, I'm also looking at various local colleges.

Make sure you avoid these e-learning companys promising a microsoft qualification and guaranteed IT job at the end of it, SCAMS I TELL YA! (most are anyway). Common sense to most I suppose, but they do sound tempting.

I'd back up the Microsoft qualification claim that someone made earlier. I have seen a lot of people with those and the college through here is supporting it in a mega way.

you can get MS certified in desktop support, which i guess from what you said you wanna do?
you'll probably know 85% of it from the start, but obtaining the qualification will really help push you on. |

That sounds like the way forward.
Seriously everyone (and I mean everyone), the advice in this thread has been fantastic. |

If you are going down the Microsoft Cert route its worth looking at some of their e-learning courses. Loads of them are free and the development ones are pretty good. They will give you an idea of the way the exams work too (memorising phrases from the books by the look of it)
Microsoft Learning Manager - English Catalog, E-Learning Is the link sorted by price Microsoft Learning Manager - English Catalog, E-Learning, Microsoft Certifications, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) Is the desktop support courses. There is a free one on preparing to do the MCDST which might be worth doing |
