band sites
most of you lot have a site of somesort, i'm curious as to how you made your site and what software if any you used. Are you using free hosts or your own subcription based host. How many of you use one of the Dreamweaver derivatives?

We're (The Fall of Boss Koala) on geocities, its not very good but I can't be arsed making a new site somewhere else.
I started off just using the geocities editors but they really suck so now I use Frontpage2000 cos its dead easy to use. I've got DreamweaverMX but I've never sat down and worked anything out yet |

I downloaded the whole Mx series to chow into but am still just farting about with Fireworks and getting familiarised with that before I dive into Dreamweaver. Typically tho I just use notepad since I know a good chunk of tags, but still have to consult Quadzilla occasionally, for sommat new

i use fireworks mx and dreamweaver mx, but i can write it ok myself. but it is pointless and a hassle when you forget tags sometimes.
i use the blueyonder host, £4 a month for 100MB and decent facilities. |

I use Dreamweaver MX at work and and home but prefer Coldfusion Studio 5 or Homesite.
MX does have a great reference guide though (javascript, CF, CSS, HTML) and it's auto complete is fluid with no pauses. But it doesn't have little things like a close all tabs button grrrrrr or a split view button or a 'replace all in selected text' option and it's buggy as fuck I've only been using it for 1 month and I've found 3 bugs the other guys at work have found more. You can't create template pages with certain types of standard conditional logic. Say you want to show different body tags if a user is valid or not e.g. pop up an advert if the user is valid and don't do it i they have registered. Can't make that into a template as DW MX does some shitty parsing of the pages and looses it's place and buggers the whole thing up. Little thing like that are VERY annoying as that's the kind of thing you want a template for. Wait for version 6.5, hopefully it'll be better 'cause if they fix all the small niggling bugs it'll be the best web tool on the market as Frontpage is a bucket of piss! |

I used dream weaver for my site but when i tryed to upload it would not work. So i then built a site in flash and tryed to upload it to geocities. But geocities would not let me use it. So i ended up saying fuck it and using geocities page builder.
Its not to bad but it limits your access. |

I use Frontpage, Dreamweaver, and handcode lots of stuff in php. The main engine of site is postnuke (php and mysql), but I made my own gig and venues databases, and customised varous other bits.
I have no money so use free hosts. Free hosts are dodgy and keep disappearing without warning so I try and keep a mirror site on the go and if one fucks up I can redirect to a working version. Currently using codeblu.com (they were giving a few free accounts as a special offer, so I lucked out) for The Band Resource Portal . Other free hosts I was playing with were Breezeland (who died), RealWebmasters (who died), www.distanthost.com (who died but came back), and www.freehu.com (who are Realwebmasters reincarnated and are probably going to die very soon). My Crack Barby site is with some dodgy dudes who keep changing their webhosting company name and URL, but it's still working at least. Think they're called Highwindwebhosting now. I should really pay for some webspace I think...... |
