Mac G5!!!
woah! fastest PCs on the planet! check it out....
CNN article Apple Official Site see, numbers dont mean a thing when it comes to smart architecture. check out the cooling system... 4 areas cooled by 4 individual low rpm fans. and PC left, Mac on the right.... stunning. as for the processor... 'Imagine fitting over 58 million light switches into the space the size of your thumbnail to comprehend the feat accomplished by IBM scientists and fabrication wizards. '

pity they rigged the figures though. i know everybody does, but making the opposition seem shit and yours uses all the optimisation seems a step to far. still at last they have nice shiny boxes... droooooooool. but then some of alienwares nooo boxes are rather funky too.
Everyone should just use a drawer and some selotape. it works quite well and you dont have to have a hideous big box at all!! |

Ive also got a dell, but its far from pissy. its a dual p4 2.8ghz. which by my reckonning is probably as fast as the g5s. it aint even new. the guy next to me has quad p4 3~ghz with nvidea quatro cards. they rock!!!

But if you write properly optimised altivec code for the g5, the p4 is left in the dust. Those G5s are pretty cool machines... Last edited by paul engage : 2nd October 2003 at 09:22 PM. |

Do you reckon a G5 would be faster than a dual P4s with hyper threading in a heavily multithreaded/multitasking environment? What about applications optimised heavily for MMX/SSE/SSE2 operations?
I know RISC architecture is better than the PCs CISC architecture, but that doesn't mean that a RISC chip is faster than every CISC chip in existence. For example, I've often heard people try to say that the PS2 hardware is better than the XBox because it's RISC, but they ignore the fact that the Xbox is still much faster then the PS2 because it has a much much faster CPU regardless of the fact that it is CISC. |
