Once again America shows its inability to recognise Scotland...
BBC NEWS | Scotland | Authors appalled at English tag
All Scottish literature is now categorised as a subset of English literature in the worlds largest library. The following quote sums it up perfectly. Quote:

A bit crap isnt it? As Liz Lochhead says, not just Scotland, but for Northern Irish and Welsh literature as well. How long till it becomes european Literature d'you think?
But i hope the above quote is a typo... |

sometimes i think that some americans think that Scottish is some sort of dress wearing, haggis eating cult.
i really hope those people are a minority though. also, my friend had a conversation with an american girl over msn that went something like this ross; where you from? girl; california, you? (<eg) ross; scotland. girl; oh scotland, i'd love to go there for a vacation or something! ross; aye, it's a nice country. girl; your english is really good though! |

I've had situations like that before.
9 year old Americans don't know very much about Scotland. Thanks to me and a few others they actually now know we have the TV, phone and internet. P.S- I'm not a paedophile. |

Having spent some time working in tourism i must confirm that it does seem tht every so often you get the occasionaly silly billy from America...
American - "so where is the Wallace Monument" Me - "you are standing inside it" American - "but i cant see it" Me - "uuuh...its all around you" American - "where?" Me - "its this building that we are right now standing in" American - "oh...so wheres the Monument to Wallace again?" Me - "Aaaaaaargh!!!!!" Haha, although i do have to say, many Americans have a better historical knowledge of our (refering to Scots) have. Many of them are quite serious in researching thier own families history and origins. |

Ouch! Scotland should rename any official American literature section the Canadian literature
![]() No longer get surprised when a foreigner makes the England-Scotland-UK mistake but you would have expected those at the top would have a clue. |
