why the celtic board won't give o'neill money
a paper i read today put forward a very interesting theory that the Celtic board won't give O'Neill any money because he's not going to go out and buy a first team regular. He's made some good signings but he's signed alot of fringe players too... Steve Guppy, Stanislav Varga etc..
maybe the board think that instead of signing foreigners to sit on the bench and play in the under 21's O'Neill should be dipping into the pool of young Scottish players... just a thought... also, while i'm talking about O'Neill, why the fuck can't he decide on a goalie?! Rab Douglas is clearly the better of the two but he makes mistakes at crucial points... maybe this is because he is being rotated so often? |

Dunno about that theory- i'm sure if he had the money he would go out and buy a big player who would start all the time.
I think that Douglas isn't a great goalie- he's improved but makes far too many mistakes and can be uncertain in the air. However, Hedman is a Swedish international and he has only made one mistake (which wasn't that bad anyway) which he got pummelled for! Give Hedman a chance i say |

I think neither of the two keepers can have much confidence just now, because they keep getting dropped to the bench every couple of weeks so they dont know what is going on. I'd play Douglas though cause he is Scottish. I don't think Celtic really need a big name signing. They have got some real quality in that Maloney boy, and the midfield boy Miller looks to be a great prospect. O' Neill has wasted money on players like Guppy though, so maybe it is a good idea to not give him money. It's great to see the Old Firm having no money anyway. Now they are feeling what every other team has felt for years. Financial constraints. Looks like they will have to bring through yound scottish players after all. Ironically the lack of money that the top clubs have could be the saving of the Scottish game. United for the cup!!!

I think Celtic need a midfielder to replace 'tub of lard' Lennon and a decent defender as Myjallby and Valgaeren aren't as reliable now that they're getting old- he should go for Amo

I think they wont give him money because they can't really afford it and O'Niell could be gone at any point so letting a manager invest deeply whos contract allows him to bugger off whenever he wants might not be too wise. The new manager might not like that £6m pound signing that the old Gaffer just brought in kinda thing. Anyway I think Celtic have a couple of decent young players in the fringes but you can't blame O'Neill for not picking them. Its up to them to play themselves into contention.
