I always thought the idea of awards for "music of black origin" was a pretty fucking stupid idea anyway. What does the colour of someones skin have to do with the music they create, really? I think the notion of a form of music being of "black origin" or "white origin" pretty ridiculous.
It's the same kind of stupidity that says rap is black peoples music, and rock is white peoples music. I would have hoped people would be beyond that now, sadly not. |

oh my god man, some people need shot with their ignorance.
rap is of BLACK ORIGIN. it was not white people who started the idea of rap music. same with music such as jazz, first played by black musicians in the early 20th century. now MUSIC OF BLACK ORIGIN does not mean that it has to be black people who perform it. it is of BLACK ORIGIN. origin: The point at which something comes into existence or from which it derives or is derived. and the mobos are a great idea as it recognises types of music, which until a few years ago were not in the mainstream and some which still isn't. |

imagine the uproar if there was a 'Music of White Origin' awards though... that would be racist you see...
and dont deny it, you all know fine well that the british press would be up in arms about it!

only by the people who don't seem to understand what it means. if it was "of white origin", black people could still win. because it is of the origin of white people and not dependent on who performs it.

Whats so racist about the idea? the awards celebrate music created by a particular type of people, and these types of music are now adopted by all types of race. You just need to look at the nominees Christina Aguelara and Justin Timberlake and Punjabi MC to see that there is no racism involved. The three highlighted above are not black, but have recieved awards / nominations because the music the make is derived from music of black origin. To me this is a sign of unity, not segregation.
And the the argument of saying that MOWO would be recieved by the public and media with outrage is just a joke and has no foundation IMO. and humndislocation, rap music is of black origin, but is accepted by all and i think the same can be said for Rock music, but my knowledge of the history of that area isnt all that great. 'It's the same kind of stupidity that says rap is black peoples music, and rock is white peoples music. I would have hoped people would be beyond that now, sadly not.' If people were not beyond that stage, white artists would not have recieved awards and nominations in this year's MOBOs.

it's not positive discrimination. it's a celebration of types of music.
they could call it the "r&b, hip hop, rap, jazz, reggae and gospel awards" and it would be the same thing. "mobos" is far less of a mouthful and covers what the awards celebrate. |

NOoooooooooooooooooooooooo
IM not saying its racist... ive dug myself into a hole havent I... All i doing was taking a stupid little swipe at the press.. i have no problem at all with the MOBO awards... my comment on positive discrimination was aimed at the attitude of the PAPERS not the organisers of the MOBOS... i honestly do believe that if there was such a thing as the MOWOs then there would be an uproar fronted by the tabloid newspapers in particular... just my view though...
