RWC 2003- Updates (and serious thread please!)
Ok troops, the results so far are as follows-
Friday 10 October Australia 24-8 Argentina (Pool A) Saturday 11 October New Zealand 70-7 Italy (Pool D) Ireland 45-17 Romania (Pool A) France 61-18 Fiji (Pool B) South Africa 72-6 Uruguay (Pool C) Sunday 12 October Wales 41-10 Canada (D) Scotland 32-11 Japan (B) England 84-6 Georgia (C) No major upsets so far- all the big teams have won and got their bonus point etc. Scotland's play was really sloppy though and the manner of the win against a team (who we should thump by about 50 points) was worrying. Hopefully things will pick up for the next game against the USA Next fixture- Tuesday 14 October Argentina v Namibia (A)- it's on at 10.30 so if you want to see Namibia get thrashed then make sure you're free then! |

you always seem to get these horribly humiliating defeats in rugby but not in soccer world cup. However, i'm hoping Scotland's less than reassuring victory is just a sign that they are saving their best for last. Lets hope so. At least we won eh?

Exactly. I watched England and they were always making brilliant flat passes. Also, we do need to get the kicking boots on- how about Ross to take the kicks? Since Gavin Hastings retired we haven't had a decent kicker and it's cost us matches

Today's result was-
Argentina 67-14 Namibia (Pool A) Argentina get the bonus point as expected. Do you think the Ireland will beat Argentina? I think it'll be the most exciting and close game of the group stage (even more so than England v South Africa) and i just can't predict an outcome at the moment? What do you all think? |

Today's results (so far) are-
Fiji 19-18 USA (Pool B) Italy 36-12 Tonga (Pool D) Some class rugby in the Italy game. Did anyone hear about their fly-half, who was playing in his first international and plays his club rugby in the second division? He was superb! His kicking from hand was excellent and he's bound to get snapped up after the RWC. I'm pretty shocked that Fiji were ran so close by the US. I didn't see the game but apparently the Yanks missed a drop goal right at the death to win it. Importantly, that now makes Scotland's qualification slightly more secure as Fiji didn't get a bonus point. At 1pm (on ITV2 i think) there is Samoa v Uruguay. Enjoy! |

Sorry, how slow am i? Another result from yesterday was-
Samoa 60-13 Uruguay (Pool C) And it was a missed conversion by the USA- sorry again! Tomorrow it's New Zealand v Canada (Pool D) at 10.30, but i can't watch it! Bugger, still haven't seen the All Blacks then. I fear for Canada after the way Wales ripped them apart... |

I wish I'd seen the USA game, looked like a good one. Sadly I'm gonna miss NZ vs Canada too whoich is a shame as I want to see just how good NZ are. I guess I could tape it but can't really be assed.

Canada 6-68 New Zealand (Pool D)
NZ made a lot of mistakes apparently and made it difficult for themselves, which is worrying for every other team as they still won by 60 points. Scotland have made 9 changes for the match against the USA. Here's the team- G Metcalfe; S Danielli, A Craig, A Henderson, C Paterson; G Townsend, M Blair; T Smith, G Bulloch (capt), G Kerr, N Hines, S Grimes, R Beattie, S Taylor, J Petrie (Glasgow). Replacements: R Russell, B Douglas, J White (Sale), M Leslie, B Redpath, B Hinshelwood, K Logan. Townsend at fly-half. Looks like we're gonna get beaten then |
