hmmm i dunno. i think for humans to wage an interplanetary war against each other would be a bit far fetched. Considering international treaties and pacts limiting the use of such weapons and the development of such weapons.

I hope to see an Earth free of nuclear weaponry, its the only way to create a road to true world security in my opinion.

I think the colonisation of another planet would actually bring a new found unity to the human race. Afterall, most religions, if not all, are taught to respect other faiths. The only type of conflict i could imaging is with extremists or rogue states. But is a rogue state really going to be able to afford a mission to the moon or any other deal that would land it a piece of the moon?

I don't think human beings will become any less warlike if we colonise the moon. It's in our nature to shoot ourselves in the foot. As for military importance of the moon, any nation with nuclear warheads on the moon would potentially have nuclear silos which would be safe from nuclear attack in the event of nuclear war, allowing them to get the last shot in.

Agreed.

If you think about it - the moon is a natural satellite, therefore anything planted on the moon would require no sort of propulsion system once it's up there, it would just orbit the earth anyway.

Imagine if someone got loads of missile arrays up there, ready to fire at any moment. It's scary stuff.

As for laying claim to the moon - I'm afraid human history illustrates the most likely scenario. Colonisation, exploiting any resources available, war, probably wrecking the environment.

A part of me hopes we just leave it be. Being untouched by man is no bad thing IMO.

Having said that, the reason we are able to sit here today chatting on PC's is down to man's ingenuity and it would be daft to suggest that all progress is bad.

Yeah I was gonna say if china get a man on the moon is everyone gonna come up with the china moon landings are faked ? There's plenty stuff trying to say the US ones were, but of course if you read the other side alot of their so called "proof" is nonsense.
