yeah. the frequency of the different components of the sound have an effect on the chemical impulses in your brain, causing you experience a pleasant or unpleasant sensation.

unless you like emo, in which case you have no brain. only a huge heart.

SLKguitarist is an unknown quantity at this point
When I was about 10 or 11 one of my pals let me hear the single
"Suspect Device" this would have been late 79 it just clicked right
away.Everything else I had been listening to before that suddenly
became not very important.I listened to the charts on the radio
but never had it crossed my mind to buy records but that was me
hooked after that.

First album I bought was "Inflammable Material" it just blew me
away,I'd never heard anything like it,that was me hooked on SLF
after that.Me and two other pals got right into punk but nobody
else at school seemed to get it the same way we did.We ended
up getting into The Stranglers,UK Subs,Ruts,Anti Nowhere League
(before they got shit) Live in Yugoslavia was a great album,Angelic Upstarts,Partizans,The Damned,Test Tubes,I could go on.Other folk
ended up getting into it mainly because we had a ghetto blaster
and it just grew on them but they were never really into it the
same as us. I always wondered why that was, for me everything
just clicked is the best way I could describe it,maybe it is a
chemical thing but you just know,it just hits you, that there is
something different, something is just right if you know what
I mean.That's how I got into punk

Ali.

why

A quick google revealed Scientific research into music , lots of articles about how the brain perceives music. Having a quick look through the huge amount of different papers and articles there: I cant be bothered reading, lots n lots should help answer your questions

interesting study about kids who listen to metal music here

Weird, i was told the opposite. My drum teacher told me about an essay he had to write in uni about if you were good at music you weren't great at maths, and vice versa. Kinda makes sense with like the creative and open nature of music and the rigid rules of maths. You're either one or the other basically.

music IS maths/physics... but you dont have to be good at textbook maths/physics to be a good musician...
