thinking...
i was just thinking, why do people like the music they do? does it have anything to do with intelligence, culture, background or the fact that people just listen to whatever everyone else does to be 'cool' when really, a different type of music is better suited to them....
anybody know?? |

"the rush" what gav's talking about. that feeling at the back of your neck when you hear a fucking awesome song for the first time. almost orgasmic. like the first time i heard last goodbye by jeff buckley, the grudge by tool, pretty lush by glassjaw, hot dog by the new mastersounds, the revolution will not be televised by gil scott-heron, oh my god by michael franti & spearhead, creep/just/my iron lung/paranoid android/pretty much any song by radiohead. i could go on forever.
what attracts me to music is a feeling of nodding my head, tapping my feet, standing on a table and dancing for hours on end. that's what draws me in. live music is where it's at for me. without that, what's the fucking point at all. in my opinion *edit* oh yeah, fuck all to do with being "cool." |

hmmmm an interseting question, but i dont belive their is a "scientific reason" for what people listen to, i chose punk because i love the fastness off the songs, and i like it because when i listen2 anything punk i feel real good...
so i'm guessin it's the same for everyone else and what they listen to that makes em happy.... obviously it's not the only reason, but it mite help?!?! |

I think there's something in a song, be it a melody, chord change, beat - whatever, that 'pricks' something in you - it causes you to actually WANT to listen to it.
I don't think there's a scientific reason for it, it's a matter of choice and a matter of taste - which can change of course. I still listen to the things that I listened to when I was 16 for example - there's still something in that music that related to me, or made me want to listen to it in the first place. |
