Personally I think what she got was a fucking joke. OK so whatever he did yeah he was probably a twat etc etc but that is out of order. Had she left him he could have bled to death, then we have murder, a little different. If a male had cut something of a woman's off for similar reasons it would be a fecking outrage. Its kinda hard to draw a decent analogy tho due to obvious anatomical differences between the sexes.
