Unhappy Armed guards on planes....

is a scary thought. One of the things i was tought was to only use a weapon as the ultimate last resort, because of the high posibility of the enemy taking it from you and using it against you. It's the worst nightmare if they ended up with guns on the plane by over powering guards... i mean the hijackers are there to die anyway so whats to stop them running at a guard with a gun? Then the guard is going to start popping off shots and the chances of penetrating the shell of the plane is high.

And now America is telling forriegn countries flying into the US to put armed guards on all their flights.

Are my fears justified?

I think it's a wee bit of an overreaction because i assume that all of these guards on planes will be very higly trained. But perhaps using rubber bullets to immobilise terrorists would be a better idea. I'm sure the guards will be in positions where they can't be snuck up on by terrorists.

Terrorists arent just terrorists though. They'll be as highly trained as the guards themselves. Complacency is what leads to such opportunities. Look at the shoe bomber. He got on a plane after Sept 11 with a shoe packed with explosives.

To you and I a terrorist is one who has made himselve visible. Those other passengers still sitting are just that, passengers. Any one of them could be part of a backup cell.

Tazers or tranquilizer darts would be better alternatives i think.

I saw on TV they'll be using bullets that break up on impact and dont just go right into someone.
And that a few bullets holes in the planes shell wouldn't cause half of the plane to be ripped apart hollywood style.

Still a stupid idea though.

Hmm my flatmate says that a plane wont decompress if a gun is fired within it. He also says that the guards would be dressed as civvies (which would make sense) so the terrorists would have to identify the guard before hand. I dont have any empirical evidence on this but hes usually right about these things.

Still think its a dumb idea though

plus dont forget it will be easy for them to hit the target, after all its not like a plane is a very narrow long tube packed with people all the way down.....

as for the decompression, there would be some but not the hollywood style everything being sucked towards hole. Besides how calm and restrained do you think the passengers would be when the alarms sound and oxygen masks tumble down. seems the terrorists would win
