Ok so I don't hate any of these skinny-pretty-white-toothed-blondes on the front of magazines, in the shampoo adverts, on the billboards,in FHM etc etc
....but what I do hate is the medias portrayal of woman. Deliberately selecting images of the "perfect" female (I find) is offensive to our position in society. As if everyone wanders around with this stereotypical image of what a pretty girl should look like in their head- while at the same time walking past any number of girls who are beautiful in their own way!!! My sister was very angry when folk defended this blatant screening of who's 'beautiful' and who's not as she suffered from bullemia and was very fragile for a while. I could line up every girl I'd ever met in my 22 years and only one or two of them would ever be considered for a magazine cover, while all of them are real life beautiful people!!! Fuck the media!! Maybe she's born with it- Maybe it's bullemia?!! Corporate screening of beauty is a con........ Men are conditioned (conned) into looking fake beauty in a female..... I say fuck you........I like hips and thighs and eyes and jokes and laughs...not some fake tanned twat with a waist that'll never carry a child!!! 'Mon the cunts!!!! |

surely we r alowed to make up our own mind
and u urself telling men that they hav been "conned" into thinkin the way they do is hypocritical at best.. i understand where ur coming from (to a degree) but i honestly dont c why ther is need to ridicule the girls on front covers in the same fashion you believe u r ridiculed.. the fact is that the people who do the covers dont go out of ther way to slander normal girls...its just a bad side affect in some instances... most men know the difference between these images and real women (for example the airbrushing in the pictures etc) BUT that doesnt mean that we cant look at them AND find happiness with someone who is beautiful in the natural true sense. i think people know a days read into everything a bit too personally |

I'm not taking it personally on me but as a whole the majority of publications with females on the front cover do not represent hte majority of the female population-worldwide!!
It's like always showing an elephant as a giraffe in text books and then when you finally see one you realize that you're being lied to..... |

im well aware that front cover girls look nothing like main population of women in the world...im merely pointin out that most people also know this and even tho some cases show young girls striving to be like them or men wanting them im pretty sure that the majority of people know the difference and lead healthy lives not worrying about such matters

you must lead a very sheltered life then. Are you not aware of the problems with eating disorders that have increased triple in the last few years? This has all got to do with the so called "perfect" body images that the media constantly promote. |

It's not a huge amount worse than the guys on magazine covers etc. As though all guys are tanned, musclebound, designer stubbled stallions.
Everyone has to make do with what they can get with what they've got. It's the same for both sexes. |

i don't know why i don't care about thing like this anymore. i'm completely comfortable with myself + don't feel the need to fight against stereotypes. there's always going to be stereotypes of most things. and really i feel sorry for the girls on the magazines, because most of them are nothing special and have just been propped up by makeup, stylists, fake tan and computer image fixing stuff. whatever it' called.

not sheltered i just dont beleive its such a big issue
its like saying violent video games make people violent i think that images such as this can only affect people that are already a bit unstable about ther weight... most people although they wish they had bodies like that would not go to extremes |

it's easy for us to say that we know that the girls on the front of glossy mags are airbrushed to fuck and on ludicrously srtict diets, because we're mature and have common sense unfortunately, kids see these images and aspire to be "perfect". social education in schools should probably cover this topic. we learn about relationships and sex and all that but we were never really taught that you shouldn't aspire to something like the cover of Loaded. |
