I think it seems like it cos the bands you hear with the most coverage are crap.

there's bands I listen to that some of my friends won't listen to just cos they've not heard of them, how on earth will you get into new music then, numpties.

You say this as if people only listen to one type of music. I consider my musical apetite to be fairly large regardless of genre and i think it is an awful time for indie music. Yeah there is lots of it about but almost all this 80s revival stuff is bland souless music, it may be catchy but so are most advertising jingles. At Felt last thursday i don't think i heard one good song that was less than 5 years old. I'm not making statements like this to be a bitch but i am genuinley worried about the state of modern music.

but like you said Morrissey is coming back - something we can all be very happy about.

well i would have been...but Wild Mood Swings then Bloodflowers (two of their blandest albums) then a load of Greatest hits comps - the chances of something as good as Disintergration, Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me are Pornography are not good.

theres lots of fantastic new music coming out, just the radio and other media generally only play a micro-playlist. Not to mention only 1% of music is ever available at any one time anyway.

The last few weeks have seen releases
hip hop: Blade, Dilated Peoples
pop/rock: Prince, Zutons, Mum
metal/punk: Probot, lots and LOTS of compilations

and thats just off the top of my head from the last month. Never mind all the fantastic bands that have visited Dundee in the last few months (mainly courtesy of Gav) bringing their own stuff and distros.

If you cant find new (or new to you anyway) good music you're not looking hard enough.

i think there is a lot of good music out there just now, it's just that it's diluted by all the pish thats piped out from music television and music magazines like kerrang.

which is basically what he said ^^^^^^^^^^

like i said there are exceptions. eg Crowbar Smile from manchester - they played at the Beat Bar recently - were very original and impressive. But there were only about 20 people at the show. And they are very much the exception to the rule.

While i don't mind searching for new material i don't think i should have to scour the country to find new music i like.
