How'd you end up supporting the team you do?

Okay, most of us support our local teams, or the teams that were local when we were kids, or the teams our parents supported... but what about the other teams you follow? Most people have a favourite English team, but why them? Most people also follow results of European teams... any particular reason?

My English team is Bolton Wanderers. Reason being that back in 93-94 I think it was, they were a lower division side and had a great FA Cup run, losing in the quarter finals to Oldham (then a Premiership team). Have been a fan ever since.

My heroes were John McGinlay, Richard Sneekes and Alan Thompson. I'll never forgive Thommo for signing for Celtic! He was a Bolton legend!

i used to like liverpool because i got a shirt for cheap and it was really nice and silky
i also liked napoli for similair reasons, i had their home and away strips before i even liked football just because they were such nice colours.
i was never really into football for the competition

I supported Derby when they got into the Premiership because i felt sorry for them. However, when they beat Man U at Old Trafford, i stopped (even though i hate Man U) because they became too mainstream

I support Man Utd for the reason that Peter Schemichael and Eric Cantona were there and they just rocked. Liked them ever since.

Wigan because I play as them on Champ Manager...started following them half way through this season. Team full of decent players all of whom really came from the English 2nd division.

I grew up in Barrowfield which is spitting distance from celtic park, i went to my first games when i was really young and my brothers and uncles were all celtic supporters. Although i think it depends on what year you were born. There seems to be more young rangers fans than celtic and i think thats coz they were the only team in scotland for 9 years so if u started to get in2 football then, the natural choice wud be rangers. Least thats what i think.

I liked Cambridge because they were the best beginner team on Premier Manager on the Mega Drive. Also for a while my mates decided to support Woking in the Vauxhall conference and they actually leapt up the table. This was to piss off all the glory hunters in our class goin on about man u and newcastle. Then, again to annoy glory hunters a group of us started going on about sunderland purely because they had an Ecru strip. Then later a premier team and also united adopted this colour for a secondary strip so its all good.

Well my favourite team is Man U. When I was younger my m8 was into them and also my Dad had a UTD scarf (although he only had it coz the colours went with his bikers outfit).

Next up is Rangers coz thats wot my Mum's half of the family all support.

Finally Carlisle coz they are the biggest Cumbrian team. I believe they were relegated to Conf on Sat. What a talented region we are!

I never followed any football team but Raith Rovers, which I do because that has always been the way.

When I went through my ice hockey phase, I supported the Toronto Maple Leafs in addition to the Fife Flyers.....not really sure why.....don't think that counts though.
