Well we're only a few matches into Euro 2004 and already I am sick of the English commentators. England - France was particularly hilarious though, the best part was when ITV's Clive Tyldesley informed us that "England are one-nil up, and all is right with the world". So presumably, when Zidane hit the equalizer, the war in Iraq was back on.
Another gem was Tyldesley saying that Jaques Santini (French manager and new Spurs boss) would have 1-0 "rammed down his throat in every English ground" next season. Genius. It was almost on a par with Kevin Keegan's "only one team can win it now, England" before they lost to Romania a few years ago. But ITV aren't the only culprits. Auntie Beeb have been at it aswell. Gary Lineker keeps steering conversations towards England, but when his studio guests are a Dane and two Scotsmen, he doesn't get very far. On the coverage of Latvia - Czech Republic, there seemed to be an English connection with every player on the pitch. Yes, Poborsky played for Manchester United, we know. And yes, he has short hair now. We're not blind. I have to say the coverage of Germany - Holland was marginally better, however the commentators did seem to be rather pro-Germany, which was unusual. I don't think enough players in the Dutch squad have English connection for John Motson to be enthused by them. But fear not folks, because, according to the EBC (that's the English Broadcasting Corporation) England will exact their revenge against France by beating them in the final. So you don't need to bother watching any more of Euro 2004, the English have it sewn up. Yeah, and I'm John Motson. |

it seems every single match of euro 2004 so far (and i have watched them all pretty much) england is mentioned more than the teams that are actually playing.
i really was impressed by the germans,i dont agree with the statement that the commentators were pro germany because motson keep willin the dutch on towards the end, they didnt deserve the draw i don't think. portugal are playing better, but they won't win it.i will be surprised if they get to the next round. the spanish have a chance but they will bottle it in the later stages, and i havent been to impressed with italy so far but there is a long way to go yet. i was dissapointed with a statement uefa made on the news about the violence in albufiera *the england team will not be punished under any surcumstances due to the behaviour of their fans" fucken holligans, |

I agree on the whole but in this instance he actually said "if the scorline stays the same" just before that Classic tonight though, he was duscussing matches which would be played at that ground and said something like "and England will be back here when they beat France in the final..." as if it's already happened. ![]() |

At the start of the Sweden vs Bulgaria game they said something like 'We got to watch the heavyweights last night and now its time for the flyweights' or something completely disrespectful like that! I mean I'd say Sweden are a better team than England, probably why they haven't beaten them in something like 35 years. And the last time the flyweights Sweden played heavyweights England I believe it was the flyweights who came out on top.

ITV Commentator in the France v England game commenting on how Henry had been having a quiet game - "Henry has been anonymous all night"
He has his name on the back of his shirt! And you just said it! |
