feeling down is something that passes eventually. depression involves suicidal thoughts, not eating properly, not sleeping properly, being incredibly moody or anti social. this goes on for quite a long time.

Only you will know when you're depressed....you also may do things to make you think your fine and/or ease the pain i.e drugs, excessive alcohol, self harm.
I used solvents as an 'escape' but it just made things worse....so it's a lose-lose situation. |

I have suffered from clinical depression for my entire adult life and have taken prozac for it for the last 8 or 9 years.
Fun. |

imo depression is caused by your environment and state of mind. this will probably stir some debate but my opinion is that when people start thinking thoughts that get them down, they begin to associate that feeling with whatever they are doing, seeing or listening at that time and end up feeling and thinking those thoughts on a regular basis. Too many people thing negatively about incidents and moments in their lives when really they should be taking these as lessons and managing their thoughts to think of positive outcomes rather than negative things.
Basically you need to get your mental state right and focus on positive aspects rather than the negative, or look at the negative aspects and find ways of turning them into positive things or using them as lessons.

people do choose to be depressed, its caused by the collapse of everything around you in your mind. You can prevent it from happening by being positive.
Go on, call me wrong and say youre experience is more valid.
