I was expecting to read how they went in like ninjas and stole it

But instead they just walked in and took it without the guards even stopping them.

They must have known how ineffective the security was there before they went in and stole it!

it was on the radio today, they got the madonna as well. its worth a couple of million which was lower than i woulda thought. Apparently visitors to the gallery were left gaping as they just casually strolled off with it haha. sounds unbelievably lax likes, wonder if they stopped for a bite to eat on the way out... "could u hold this painting whilst i finish my donut?"

I dont believe in private collections but no doubt this wonderful painting will end up hidden away for all eternity if not recovered. Art is for everybody and not just the selfish few privilaged enough to pay others to steal it for them.

I was actually at the Modern Art Gallery yesterday, there was two guards standing next to the Munch paintings. That is all.

Wasn't the scream stolen before? Or am I thinking of something else? If so, does the person that devised the security for that place, smoke crack on a regular basis?

Was it not one of da vinci's that your thinking of man?! It is unbelievable that it could be taken so easily. Especially considering munch was really pernicatey about where all his paintings were positioned, im sure i read somewhere that they all relate to each other in some way. Have any of you guys seen his "melancholy" and "puberty" paintings? i think they're pretty awesome

there are 4 versions of the scream. one of which was stolen in 1998 and recovered 3 months later. 1 of the versions is owned by a private collector.

This version is worth Â£41 million. All four versions are (were, who knows where this one is!) in Norway. I just finished reading about it in the paper.

That was a pretty audacious robbery.
