slaughter of pheasants in Kirkaldy

courier report

Quote:
Shock as 45 young pheasants beaten to death

JUST DAYS before they were to be released, scores of young pheasants have been stamped, trampled and kicked to death in an orgy of slaughter that has appalled a veteran gamekeeper.

Police are now investigating the wanton barbarity
that took place in the Raith Estate on the south-east edge of Kirkcaldy and has astonished gamekeeper Peter Wood.

“The birds were about 12 weeks old and were in pens in the forest,” said Peter.

“I’ve been around blood sports for some time but I’ve come across nothing like this, it’s just sickening.”

Although some birds fled, around 45 were trapped against netting and beaten to death.

Local youths have been seen in the area but the carnage was only discovered when staff made a routine check on the birds.

Fife police spokesman Inspector John Jenks said, “This was a particularly disturbing crime causing obvious distress to the helpless birds contained within the pen before they were killed.

“Raith Estate is a private estate but there are several points around the perimeter where the public can gain access to the estate grounds.

“Initial investigations indicate that the perpetrators of this particular crime may have gained access to the estate from the Dunvegan Avenue area of Kirkcaldy and we are appealing to anyone who can help us with our investigations to contact us on 01592 251111 or any local police station.”
so mindless thugs beat to death 45 birds, which saved days later a bunch of wankers shooting them.

As there was going to be an "orgy of slaughter" anyway is this being investigated because the birds were killed needlessly for fun or because they were killed needlessly for fun before a different bunch of psychotic morons could pay to needlessly kill them for fun?

Yeah I agree with you to a point, cos obviously they were gonna be killed by a few farmers weilding shotguns but for me, the thought of them getting killed from a distance hopefully instantly is alot nicer than them being stamped and beaten to death.

It's weird though cos I wouldn't be able to bring myself to stamped on a phesant's head for fun, so how could they? Strange.

anyone who takes pleasure in killing animals for a hobby is a wanker, including those who killed them at the weekend.

The fact there is an investigation into their death when they would be ritualistically murdered anyway and its what they were bred for is monty python style humour at its best.

Aww Monty Python...

Anyways I know a few people who go shooting occasionly...they're good people. I dunno I guess I just don't really care about animals the way some people do, maybe if the money going into animal charities was spent on helping out our fellow humans there'd be less poverty and disease in the world...or the rich bureacrats would be even richer, who knows.

Are the pheasants eaten after being shot ? Or merely discarded ?
If they are eaten I don't see how it's any different from eating any other animal.

yeah that's kirkcaldy for you. I used to babsyit for people who went hunting and they had stuffed animals all over the house. A bit scary but i'm not a great animal lover so can't say it bothered me that much.
It's ashame they were beaten to death though, not the nicest way to go

Well if pheasants are bred and reared......to be shot and eaten, is this any different to a farmer with cows and sheep, keeping them to be killed and eaten.
Just here you can come and shoot your own, and then eat it. Not anymore inhumane than the way it would be killed "normally". How many people actually have killed the things they eat ? Probably not many, which I think is a bad thing in a way. With regard to the specific place in question, I have no idea what happens to the pheasants there, whether they are eaten, stuffed , or just discarded so I can't comment. Of course I doubt Alan G has any idea either but it won't stop him going off on one. Unless of course you'd like to go find out and prove me wrong ?
