The Dundee Union.
In light of a few threads on the forums relating to this, I'll try to sum up the jist of them:
What the hell is going on with The University of Dundee Students Union? I have probably been going, and more recently, not going there for nearly 8 years now. I even worked there for a short time. The place is nothing but a haven for boorish, "wacky", rugger-bugger, alpha-male, drinking-games playing, "<insert name here>'s 19th Birthday Piss-up" T-shirt wearing idiots. And the management seem to pander to these people, instead of lampooning them as the drunken buffoons they are. The nightclub events have been dumbed-down to such a ridiculous level that they are no different to any other commerical nightclub. The nights seem to serve the purposes of one sector of the student body - that is the cheesy, commercial night-club attending part. I don't think it is any co-incidence that hardly anyone from, for example, Duncan of Jordanstone goes to the union very often. It is bland, mundane and plain boring. The Union "supports a sensible drinking policy" - bullshit. There have been so many complaints of the years about the security staff in there that it begs belief. The potential for the place has always been great. I know for a fact that there are many students at the University who do not feel that Union is there for them at all, yet it claims to be for all students. Places like the student union should be vibrant and creative, not boring and stifling. The sad part is many students from out of town don't know where else to go, and therefore end up accepting it the way it is. Please post your thoughts.

Sadly after spending all that money on refurbishment they now need to ensure that all the rugger bugger types who'd otherwise go to the Mardi/Fatties start going to the Union instead to spend their pennies.

I agree with George.
I think they should employ professional security instead of cheaper rugby-playing students. More often than not they aggravate (or even cause) whatever situation may be occurring. There's loads of incidents from the past few years- most students have at least one tale to tell... |

the security staff are complete morons, they ushered me out while I was trying to get into the office to tell them my phone had been stolen, and then refused to let me back in on the grounds "I'd had too much to drink".
were they afraid the 3 glasses of orange juice were going to cause me to piss myself on their floor? |

I don't think there's a club/pub anywhere where the door staff are universally liked. |

ive had problems with the rugby players/bouncers who do the 'security', ive met maybe 2 of them that are actually decent guys and not complete arseholes. i remember one guy threw out my mate for no reason whatsoever. my mate went to the toilet, next thing i see is a bouncer throwing him out for 'sleeping' which was total bullshit then refusing to explain the situation to me and the rest of my mates, that was a good night out ruined.
im only going into second year at dundee and unfortunately for me the good days of the union seem to be over, the new look union is fucking rank and will almost certainly be filled with the type of people i cant stand ![]() |

I've *never* had a problem with security even when I fell asleep in the corner of Petes once. The bouncer that woke me up was one I sorta knew from lectures so that was alright. I wouldn't say any of my uni friends have had *major* problems with them either. Although I do know of other people having clashes with them. There's quite a few working there that I've not seen before so who knows what they might be like? They might be nicer than the other ones!

the students union at Uni of Dundee has been severely fucked over in the past few months, most probably by the new elite students that think they are all that for being in charge of the place. YOU FUCKED IT UP YOU TWATS.
i've not been for months, my friends havent been for months. When we did go and saw what happened with Air or whatever poncy name its been given, we just looked at each other and walked straight back out again. The students union used to be a good place to go and chill out while at uni and after we graduated, now it doesnt even come on the list of places to go now-a-days. Its possible the worst state i;ve seen the place in. I hope Abertay shaft em up the pipe by catering for students when their new union opens fully. At least maybe then we'll have another place to go. I used to see DUSA as a safe haven from the morons that frequent places like the Mardi and other clubs in the area, but not any more. Quote:
