Jack McConnell hates fags
a smoking ban in all pubs and clubs.....
we have all heard the arguments before....and to be honest i cant be arsed hearing them all again... we all have our opinion.... but one thing i have thought of, which perhaps is a new argument to people is that more people will smoke in their own houses as a result of a ban... this has been proven to be the place where the most damage is done, as people live in houses and because they tend to spend longer in their houses than in the pub. and who does this effect most? family memebers - especially children, who at the moment dont tend go into pubs and clubs. I really feel that this is a bad move... its restrictive and intrusive, for me and many others theres nothing better than a fag and a pint as a small reward for a hard days work, we get taxed enough for smoking... if we cant smoke in pubs and clubs then this tax should go down, because presumably those peoples whos health is damaged now will no longer suffer this damage..... i understand that my smoking in a pub has a negative effect on those who work there and on those who go to the pub. but the people dont HAVE to work there and the punters dont HAVE to go in. i feel that a voluntary ban would be better with perhaps financial rewards in tax breaks for those pubs who dont allow smoking. |

Why don't people who drink just force a pint of lager down the throat of any non-drinker who enters a pub. After all, if they didn't want to drink alcohol, then they shouldn't be in a pub. I don't see how it's any different. |

why the fuck are people so uptight in this country... people need to live and let live.... instead of spending their whole lives looking for things to complain at.... and should be ban it? like a big facist? i think we should encourage people to stop smoking... by doing other things... not by BANNING them |

You're not being banned from smoking. You're perfectly free breath in carcingenic chemicals, if that's what floats your boat. It's your right to choose your addiction over your health. It is not, however, your right, to make that decision for me, by forcing me to breathe in your smoke. |

lets ban things... completely
lets marginalise huge swathes of society yipeei do think its unfair to be blowing smoke into an athsmatics face.. but it is your choice to go into smoky environments.. and if we move the smoke then the people it affects are children and familys... is this what we want to do? smoking and non smoking sections is one solution.. and the other could be tax breaks for pubs that dont allow smoking.... a ban is a very very harsh thing to do and it seems a bit abrupt... our government wants to force us to not smoke in pubs and clubs... surely it should mearly encourage... it isnt our mum or our nanny also passive smoke really doesnt cause that much damage now does it |

Secondly, not all pubs are big enough for that. Could you imagine having smoking/non smoking sections in the balcony bar? Yeah, that'd work. |
