how many of you have white fillings?
how big were they +how much did you get charged? my sister's dentist is trying to charge her £62 per tooth for 4 TINY marks, that aren't even cavities. |

I need fillings because the enamel doesn't form properly on some of my teeth. So the dentist tried to put in some white fillings, but they wouldn't stick, so I have silver fillings instead. I dunno how much it cost though... I'm not aware of the expenses because my Mum took care of it all...
Abi, that sounds horrible. I would smack my dentist across the face with a nearby fish if he did that to me. |

I had to have a chip filled in on my front two teeth and had to get white resin fillings. You'll know if you get those as they have to blast it with UV light to harden it. The amalgam ones just set themselves.
I didn't get charged that much. £30 or so (and that was for 2). Col |

i've had a few white ones, mainly because i got holes on the front of my teeth... came to about £30 each or something.
the funniest part is when they hold up this colour chart next to your teeth to get the right shade. a bit like decorating your house or something. On a similarly related topic, I have a huge, irreparable hole in my tooth, which is causing me immense pain. I have two choices... have it removed, leaving me with a big gap.. or fork out a small fortune for root treatment. What should I go with? Bearing in mind the tooth is one of my back ones, so it wouldn't be noticable... however, i don't want a tooth removed at the age of 21 |

this is the thing.my sister IS still at school, but her dentist says it's cosmetic, she can't get them on the msn. lol. i'm just up + find it fairly funny i just typed that instead of nhs.
but cheers for confirming that paying £334 for 5 fillings (4 small + one medium) for white fillings is completely ridiculous. |

it's around 60 quid for a white filling with no concession. The latest compunds are pretty good.. pretty much unnoticeable.
I'd go for white over mercury amalgam anyday - I wouldn't want to put mercury (one of the most toxic metals) anywhere near my mouth. Last edited by paul engage : 13th November 2004 at 09:14 AM. |

i have a white filling, but its not a proper filling its like just on top of the tooth packed in. I got mine free he didn't even ask me just gave me a white one
![]() they're quite expensive though, my flatmates getting 4 with her student loan and i know she got a big loan. some dental treatments are so expensive, in lectures the other day we got told that if we go NHS then you charge about £200 for a crown and on private its £500! |

I was the same when I got mine. Just got free silvery looking ones. I reckon if I really want white ones in the future, I can cough up +get them done. Everyone has them anyway, +unless they're at the front of the mouth, no-one can ever see them. |
