Totally. We are who we are. I don't get this whole "I'm a mosher so I dress like X" or "I listen to A so I should dress like B" or "I dress like Y so I should listen to Z."

Oh and isn't this individualism of goths/moshers meant to mean we dress and listen to what we want? That seems to have got somehow translated into "we dress and listen to what Kerrang wants."

you hit the nail on the head there! Like you say you are who you are and you don't have to dress a certain way just because you like a certain band.

I mean if someone asks me what sort of music I like and I list metal as one of them, I just get laughed at. I then proceed to ask them what's so funny and they just say you don't look like you like metal. Then they further explain this by saying that the problem is I don't dress like I listen to metal.

Who exactly is to say that I am supposed to dress in a certain way?!


oh and if I was to dress in a certain way due to my certain tastes in music. I would look very disjointed indeed because I love many different genres in music.

Not everyone who dresses in a metal fashion does so because they think they have to, or because they're looking for attention.

It's blatantly obvious from looking at me, that I like metal. I've got long hair, I generally wear combats, with a metal or industrial tshirt, and army boots. That's just what I like, and I feel comfortable in.

The main thing to me, is that I really like that look, regardless of whether anyone else thinks it's lame or not. I'm not doing it for anyone else.

Yes, the realisation that everyone's seen it a million times before and hasn't actually died of shock doesn't seem to have set in yet, does it?

I don't get why there seems to be a direct correlation between desperation to be 'different' (ie the same as every other 'different' person) and inability to put on make-up without looking like a moron either.
