The thing about internet dating is (assuming it's a guy and a girl), the guy is gonna say all this lovely stuff he doesn't really mean just so they can get to the norty stuff, and the girl is gonna be all naive and believe it. Much like real life really. Man, I'm getting cynical in my old age

instead of buying flowers and wooing each other, you simply PUT IN THE MSN/MYSPACE/CHATROOM BANTER KEN, and when you actually meet up, skip straight to the sex.
whereas outside of the interweb, you simply skip the BANTER, and go straight to the sex. thusly, internet is romantic by proxy. |

My mum met my step dad on the internet.
They have been married 5 years now. Although he was a friend of the family in America, and she deleted all of his e-mails because she didn't know who he was until they met in real life on holiday. |

Okay, I might have picked up what you are saying incorrectly but it seems like you're saying that romance is dead simply because people communicate with (ie, "banter/woo") each other without direct face to face communication? If this is what you're saying I have to strongly disagree. The internet is just another easy method of communication, much like the telephone was when it became affordable and practical as a widespread means of personal communication. The statement about "going straight to the sex"? You're making a fairly vast generalisation there, I certainly wouldn't be comfortable in a relationship that was entirely justified by sex. Maybe one reason that more people are having casual sex is because it's far more acceptable socially. What's to say the people that do this wouldn't have always done this throughout history if they hadn't had to adhere to the rules that you had to be romantically involved with someone before sleeping with them? If people want to sleep with each other without the romance aspect being forced on them then that's cool, it'll probably stop loads of potentially unhappy relationships, but that doesn't mean romance is dead. It's just rarer because it's not forced on people. Maybe you're just bitter because girls don't like you Dave. Or maybe I totally misunderstood your post, I just got up. |

My issue is that the Internet is as REALLY flawed method of comunication if its on its own. Its so easy on instant message programmes to take people for granted, and no matter the subject of conversation, youre never going to get thye full effect looking at a screen.
