Six Nations 2005- discussion/news thread
I've decided that i'm going to try to start a discussion/news thread about this great competition. If you decide you want to post something like-
RUGBE ISS SHEET! or IT'S GREAT BECAUSE THEY HIT EACH OTHER HARD please don't post it here- write it on a bit of paper at home or txt it to your long-suffering best friend. Anyway- Match Day One Results France 16-9 Scotland Wales 11-9 England Italy 17-28 Ireland I thought we were robbed of a draw tbh and Jon Petrie's yellow card still mystifies me, but nothing can hide the fact that this was another terrible performance. Yes, the handling was slightly better, but AGAIN there was no penetration from the 3/4 line and when the French finally decided to play, we crumbled under the pressure. I thought Wales at Cardiff wasn't a huge surprise as this looked like a potential banana skin for England early on, with Gavin Henson's outstanding play marking him out already as a potential choice for the Lions tour, and Ireland's win was harder fought than most imagined, but they still outclassed the hard-working Italians. However, if Scotland can get their running game going, we may have a chance against the Irish. They may be missing the man that makes them tick (Brian O'Driscoll) and Scotland have a great record against them at Murrayfield in recent years. England-France is too close to call and i fancy a Welsh victory by 20 points. |

I can see where the ref was coming from with the jon petrie binning. Watching the replay, you can clearly see him point and tell petrie he's offside. Fair enough if he wasn't, but it was close, and if the ref has told you he think's your offside, you shouldn't go all out to actually be offside.
It could also be said the before traille scored, he may have been offside as well. This tournament has been thrown wide open, and like many pundits think that it is possible that there will be no grandsalm this year. Ireland obviously deserve it, but I get the feeling they could slip up. Especially with God missing from their team. I can't see France play that badly again this year (but they're always a bit tempramental), so they'll most likely be in with a shot. At the moment, I really couldn't call it between ireland wales and england, they all seem to be fairly well matched. But as with France, I imagine England will raise their game significantly now, after the defeat by Wales. Mutch as I hate to say it, Scotland will be fighting for the wooden spoon again, but after this saturday, it should be clear who is going to get it. Italy will find it tough I'm sure, especially in the millenium stadium. I heard the noise on the TV. That would unerve me! This will be the best 6 nations for a long time. E |

I think there are tickets still available for all of the games? But they might cost you an arm and a leg. My brother paid £30 for the Scotland vs Ireland game and those were reduced from £55.

Well...I thought that was a bloody EXCELLENT match despite the fact that we lost. First 20minutes were utter brilliance! But then it all went downhill...We had a lot of oppertunities but we're just too nervous I think.
At least Hugo Southwell made up for his mistake last weekend eh! |

What match were you watching!
That was a dreadful performance. Again lots of basic errors, and a forward pack that were massacred by the irish. Southwells try should have helped us play better, but instead it just spurred the irish on. Scotland just didn't seem to want to win. There was no hunger. In my opinion, cusiter should have stayed off, and let mike blair continue. Cusiter did not play to his best while injured. I only hope that Ireland do get the grand slam now. E |

Naw you see. I think there were some really good moments from Scotland. They had some good runs and sequences but they were shot down by the basic errors you mentioned.
I agree with the fact that Cusiter should have stayed off. That was a mighty blow to the head and to the team in general...but he was obviously not all together when he came back on. France to beat England tomorrow thanks. |

Italy 8-38 Wales
Scotland 13-40 Ireland England 17-18 France I didn't manage to catch our game (was at a little Scotland v Ireland match at Ibrox myself I DID, however, see France beat England and i was just thinking how much of a joke that England team has become. How they lost an 11 point half-time lead to lose is beyond me. Also, they've always had good goal-kickers, so to see them miss that many kicks shows how much they miss 'Wilko'. Ireland at Lansdowne Road- England for the wooden spoon???!?!?! |
