Teacher training in dundee
Are there any decent teacher training places in dundee? Prob leaving my course for a few reasons... mainly it bores the hell out of me and going into teaching is a likely option.

cant you do a year at Dundee uni once you complete the degree that you are doing? i have considered doing this for a while as teaching is something i'd think i would enjoy.

would i need my honours or not? i'm planning on ditching out a year early with just a plain degree. could get into a place back in england (where i know some quality places nr where my folks live) with a straight degree as their system is probably different, just to confuse everything, but i'd rather stay up here.

i dont think you need an honours, but i might be wrong. I have an honours and they said it would only be a years training before i'd be eligible to teach...

hey develion that is possible but definitely get in touch with any teacher training college or uni department first. i ditched out of honours to leave with ordinary degree after talking it over with my tutor and for me it was the right thing to do. they said i could go back and do my honours whenever i liked, so i kept my options open. But open up the teacher training option before you leave as that would give you brownie points and make you look like a stable, forward planning kind of person, a good example to kids even if , like me, your sock drawer is chaos and you need lists for reminders. oh and if your diy is haphazard too! still consider teaching as a good option myself, get a chance to play in the chemistry lab again!
hope to hear how you get on for future reference myself! |

Dundee Uni has a very good primary ed department, you can do a 4 year degree or a 1 year post grade.
I got in last year but decided to leave it off for a few years (til i gain more life experience) and my big brothers girlfriend(currently doing the course) said i did the right thing. |

hmmm my pal does the 1 year post grad for high school teaching, from what i understand it is very competitive to get on the course, she does have a masters (i think). Certainly she enjoys the course and it seems to be pretty intense stuff...she is always studying etc (i am waiting for my mate to reply as to the need for a masters so ill edit when she does)
The slight downside is you study at gardyne (i study there too, tho i study social work). Its not too bad just out of the way, i prefer the main campus...tho there is nothing quite like entering that time warp that is gardyne |

You don't need to have your honours. Dundee does primary and certain subjects at secondary. It's a year long course. If Dundee doesn't do the subject you want you could go to Aberdeen or Strathclyde (like me). You get three placements in schools, all of which I've been able to get in Dundee so I'm not through in Glasgow that much. It will cost you though, tuition fees, numerous Disclosure checks, GTC membership etc. You have to apply through these fuckers http://www.gttr.ac.uk/ PM me if you want more info I suppose.
