Work needed...
Well well well... I have had an eventful day today already, and I've only been up for 2 hours!
Here goes: 0900 Woke up, saw a spider on the wall... carefully got it out the window without harming it (much). Ironed my clothes, had a cup of tea, got ready etc and went to work. 1000 Arrive at work to see a big envelope on my desk (amongst piles of shit) - I open the envelope and it states that my last working day will be 30 June '05. I take a moment to think about this. Working here, most people are on temp contracts - we get them extended periodically to fit the budget. I thought I was getting kept on as permanent though? They surely would have told me if my contract was due to be ended. Hang on... last week... at that meeting - we were talking about staffing issues and whenever they mentioned temp staff nobody mentioned me - so I must be permanent. Either that or they all knew that my contract was being terminated and nobody bothered to tell me about it. I'd better go speak to the boss and check this out. 1025 Boss isn't in today so I wait until one of the senior deputes is off the phone to ask him about this. Me: "Alan... I just got a letter saying (blah) - do you know anything about this?" Alan: *looks uncomfortable* "Ermmm... you'd better ask Norrie [my boss], he'll be back on Tuesday." Me: "See... because I had assumed I was getting kept on - seeing as how my name wasn't mentioned once when talking about temp staff last week, you knew nothing about this?" Alan: *looks more uncomfortable* "... you should really just talk to Norrie." He's avoiding the question. 1030 Back at my desk thinking. I make a choice. I delete all my personal emails, I gather all my personal belongings and cram em in my pockets, get up, put my jacket on and exit the building. Once outside I light up a cigarette and walk past all the other staff who are smoking (they probably think I'm going to the shop.) 1100 I'm sitting at my desk at home, drinking a cup of tea and posting on UGS as a way to release some anger so I don't end up destroying something/someone. So... anyone got any jobs going? I have office, customer service, cash handling, bar, catering, kitchen and sales experience... but I don't take any shit. JobCentre website - here I come. |

Whats with all the crap jobs? I just scoured the JC+ website and didn't find one decent full-time job, same with the Courier. I think I'll just go to Jag tonight and get very pissed.
I'll be the guy sitting in the corner with a pint, a JD/coke and a cigarette - holding my head in my hands saying "what am I gonna do?!" |

Surely by just walking out of your old job you're screwing yourself over? There were another 20 days til the job ended which you could have worked and been paid for whilst looking for a job, plus by just walking out, you're less likely to get a reference from them...

Not going back to a call centre.. or the civil Service for that matter.
Yes I guess I have screwed myself over a bit - but jobs aren't everything. I work to live. I don't live to work. Yes, I could have worked there for the next 3 weeks and earned enough money to last me til August but I refuse to work for a boss so incompetent that he tells me how to do my job via e-mail and doesn't have the balls to tell me that due to his (highly unprofessional) personality clash with me he has cut my contract. They screwed me so I'm screwing them (albeit screwing myself in the meantime, but it's worth it... I like a good screw). |
