Earthquake in Asia
I'm amazed and concerned at how little coverage this seems to be getting at the moment. I guess if any good can come from this it is that India and Pakistan are going to work together to bring forth a massive relief effort to the Kashmiri region... with American resources being sent to the area and British search teams being deployed. Thankfully i have no family in that area of India but i have friends who have family near the region in Pakistan that was most hard hit.
I think the current death toll has surpased the 30,000 mark with 1 death in Afghanistan, 999 in India and 30,000 in Pakistan.

Well said KJ.
This just goes to show how the "western" media reports things. It's an absolute disgrace but we all know that this will drop from the news agenda in the next couple of days, yet the fallout from Katrina will be talked about for ages, regardless of the scale of the disasters.

yeah, international aid was quick for the tsunami and the american hurricanes. I dont know what it is but things like this generally dont get the media attention unless it has some sort of economic/strategic impact on the West. The next superpower will emerge from that region.
I know right now that the relief effort is seriously lacking in the Kashmir region but thats party due to terrain and weather issues. The Red Cross (http://www.ifrc.org/) and UNICEF (http://www.unicef.org/) have started relief programmes as well as various other well known charitable organisations. The BBC seem to be doing a good job covering the disaster here

my heart go's out to the wee woman who was on the radio who'd lost a big chunk of her family to this disaster. I couldn't imagine loosing a single member of my family but to loose 8 or 9 all at once...damn,,,again..my heart go's out to her.
