I got called up in january and my citation arrived this morning. Anyone ever done it before? What should i expect? My date is right in the middle of a uniworktastic month, i'm hoping i'll be in and out pretty soon.

You might not need to do it for ages. Court cases constantly get delayed, or cancelled etc... you might get lucky. Not that, that is neccessarily a good thing, getting fucked around for dates n crack.

yeah i've done it. kinda interesting. you might not get picked for the jury so you might just be there for an hour if your lucky.
i got picked, the trial lasted 3 days. |

my experience (on my 21st birthday!) was sit around for two hours, get sent for a break, sit around some more, get chatted up by a really annoying guy, sent home about 2 and told to come back the next day (a witness didn't show up apparently). went back, chatted up some more by the increasingly infuriating guy, sent home about 11, they were bringing a new jury in the next day.
that was the high court. |

I was called up for jury duty a few years ago, I turned up late for the first day and then was late again on the 2nd day and happily got told to fuck off. It was good being told to not come back since I was (am?) a lazy bastard anyway, but I missed my one chance at being an annoying arse as the one member of the jury to spoil a unanimous verdict. "She was fucking asking for it m'lord!! If you're gonna keep your savings in a shortbread tin they might aswell be used on skag!" |

I've done it as well, it was a farce. We got a day and a half into the proecution's case and then he asked the witness if could see the person that had committed the crime in the court... and he couldn't. The procurator fiscal obviously realised the whole thing was a farce and spent the next twenty minutes destroying his own witness and then rested. And then the judge told us we had to acquit. All very worthwhile! Got a nice lunch though.
