I'm going on Monday to give them some superblood cos I'm in chamonix right now so it'll be full of red cells

Re the platelets thing, not everyone can do it, you have to have a certain blood group (although it's one of the common ones) and you should be able to commit to going every month, which not everyone can do.

I dont give blood because Im very afraid of needles and blood. I used to go with my gran when she gave blood to try and get over my fear by watching what goes on and sitting with her and her big bag of blood, but fainted, which is a bigger pain in the ass for the people working there.

Id really like to but I puke and faint when I get vaccines so Im no use. Its sure not out of laziness.

Its annoying because my gran still gives, shes got the blood that they give to premature babies, so she keeps on at me. Sucks.

My reason for not giving blood won't be very popular, and I'm sure I'll catch hell for posting this (deservedly so, to be honest), but I used to go out with a nurse, and after hearing all the stories of ungrateful ned pricks that were total bastards to the staff in the hospital, and shitty human beings in general, I don't want any of my blood going to people like that.

I got asked to donate platelets, but it's like you say, I can't commit to the regular attendance so It's not feasible at this time in my life. My blood type is O- which is the best because anyone can be given it But there's only something like 7% of people with it.

Ah yeah sorry. You have to be O or A.

What i find fascinating is that women can be pregnant, and the child can have a totally different blood type.

Once I'm dead, I want anything useful to be taken out my body, then the rest just chucked in a skip (of the medical waste variety for sanitary reasons).

Some medic friends were trying to convince me that if you sign up to donate your body to medical science, you get a big fat cheque.

I don't really understand how that can be considered a donation... I think they must have been joking, but one friend's Dad apparently did it. *baffled*

I remember reading about an experiment where 'they' stopped your heart and started it again, for the princely sum of £10,000. As far as i can see, there is no downside to this - if it works, you're £10k up, if it doesn't then it's not as if you'll know anything about it.
