Go donate blood!

Erm. That's about it.

If you're in Dundee you can walk into Ninewells from 2pm - 6pm every Wednesday. And if you're feeling really racey you can donate platelets, which takes a bit longer but is a really nice thing to do.

If you donate 3 times in 2008 they give you a badge. Which is clearly far more important than saving lives. And you get free tea and biscuits.

Side affects of giving blood:
- Slight euphoria
- Puffed up chest
- Broad smile

ScotBlood - The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service

On a side note, where do the buses drop off at Ninewells? I got so faint last time i shouldn't really have driven home.

I'm going soon. I've had to wait a year since last time because I got some piercings.
I go for the Tunnocks tea cakes

After looking at the National Blood Services' website I found the following stipulations for when you shouldn't give blood:

2 You're a man who's had sex with another man, even safe sex using a condom.
3 You've ever worked as a prostitute.
4 You've ever injected yourself with drugs - even once.

You should not give blood for 12 months after sex with:

1 A man who has had sex with another man (if you're a female).
2 A prostitute.
3 Anyone who has ever injected themselves with drugs.
4 Anyone with haemophilia or a related blood clotting disorder who has received clotting factor concentrates.
5 Anyone of any race who has been sexually active in parts of the world where AIDS/HIV is very common. This includes countries in Africa.
I'm just going to go ahead and assume you've been whoring yourself out to haemophiliacs

I started giving blood a few years ago. I have no idea why more people don;t do it. Maybe laziness?

Most of the people I have spoken to who don't give blood have a fear of needles.

Most people i know who don't donate blood have a dislike of needles. It's not like they'd burst into tears or anything...

he was saying the same as you!

I can understand the fear of needles thing but if people like that could understand that you don;t see a needle and all you feel is a pinch I'm sure they would come round, unless its a phobia type thing then they would need proper councelling or something. lol

I'm sure they understand that perfectly well.

If only irrational fears were a bit more rational.
