He's reading scripted rhetoric, not engaging in a two-way debate. He was a dick but he had Alzheimer's disease, and the fact he had been diagnosed means that he must have been experiencing symptoms, so the boat for debating with him fairly had sailed. We can't say he was making rational decisions, we can't say he fully understood what he was doing. Sorry.
Moore acted like a bully in order to get a nice crowd-pleaser.

And Moore's membership of the NRA is moot. He was debating their behaviour at the top level, he could have easily went for someone with all their faculties intact. He went for the easy-target money-shot, because he's a cock.

Heston was a bitter, stubborn old dying man who was progressively losing his mind and personality.
