Truth.
hehe, sorry i saw that in another thread. As for Moore being a bully...its been a while since i watched it but is there not a bit in 'Bowling for Columbine' where he goes into a Wallmart store with one of the Columbine survivors to return the bullets shot into said poor kid to the store clercks...is it just me or how how shit is that? Must have made them feel like crap and a half especially as it was filmed. What are you supposed to say in a situation like that? Sure it makes for good film making...or at least sensationalist film making, but it really serves no point other than make guys who had nothing to do with the Shooting feel that they were somehow responsible. Surely he should have arranged a meeting with a policy maker for the Wall-Mart company...someone who actualy has a say on whether or not firearms and bullets are sold in the company stores...not the spotty faced teens/minimum wage workers he humiliated on camera. *rant over* oh, and if i am wrong about this (ie, turns out he didnt go to a random Wall-mart and was actualy at their head office)...i apologise, its been a fair few years since i have seen it |

The bully comment was based on my understanding of his treatment of Charlton Heston, which was clearly founded on spurious premises. As well you know. Don't be a bad winner. |

Another thing that didn't sit well with me was the way he handled his donation of money to his rival's wife for a medical procedure. It's ostensibly an extremely nice thing to do, but that money was pocket change to Moore (which doesn't necessarily stop it being a nice thing to do, don't get me wrong) and I think he did it for wrong and disingenuous reasons. I don't think he did it anonymously then decided later he would talk about it at the climax of his film. I think he did it purely for the stunt, intending all the while to rub that guys nose in it, and not out of the goodness of his heart. He could have paid the bills of any one or all of the needy people in that film, he choose the person that would give him the biggest impact factor. |

some of the people in the Wal Mart were really kind and looked after the victims actually, if i remember rightly he was at the store where they sold bullets to the killers.
yet they refuse to sell certain albums as their content is not with keeping with the company image. i think regardless of his films and books point, and even Moore himself, it gets people talking about the subject, and after everything of his that i have seen, ive since gone on to look at it further and heard lots of different things, some supporting, some debating. Its kinda like the Supersize Me, without sensationalism these documentaries would be pretty dull (see the Wal Mart one for example!) |

Personally, while I wouldn't like to see gun ownership become legal over here, I can understand the American argument in favour of allowing citizens to own guns.

For example I remember pointing out in Virgin that we had an album in the Irish Section (ironically) with the catalogue number Billy1690 and banners for the Red Hand Defenders on cover. RHD are a proscribed terrorist organisation and there had recently been some robberies at gunpoint in Dundee by some of their supporters who funded the group with their haul. Mangements response was "meh" even though this probably fell foul of the various (generally appalling) Terrorism Acts. (The Irish folk albums generally had tricolours on them but no IRA banners or I would have pointed out the dodgy legal situation of that too.) |

Originaly Charlton Heston was pro-guns becasue of the lifestyle many folks around him had wree he grew up. Hunting provided a person with their next meal...i highly doubt people in inner city urban areas need high powered assualt rifles to gun down a stray kitten for brunch. *if this comes off all snippy im sorry, its meant to be light hearted * |
