There'll be an intriguing story to come out of all this, which is awful to say as these people have had a good chunk of their lives ruined!

It reminds me of when a woman (I'm paraphrasing from an article I read years ago here) descended herself into a pit for a few years for a scientific study. She only had books to read and her thoughts for company. She published a book about her experiences but i've been unable to find it, something like "Living in the depths of Hell". If she could only last a few years without the outside world, and voluntarily... it boggles the mind what these people went through.

Anyway, that story pales in comparison to what these people went through in this cellar and I can only hope they can go on to live full lives after all this.
