Also, I just realised I have been an ignorant prick and haven't said this yet, but thanks to everyone who's offered condolences and/ or support, and also to everyone who's made the Dundee shop the success it has been. I think I speak for all the guys in the shop when I say that we've met some golden folk among the arseholes, and it's been great to be able to help out friends and fellow musicians when possible.

You're absolutely right about people wanting time and personal service combined with internet mail order prices. I worked in music retail for 5 years as a manager and it never ceased to amaze me.

The fact is that if you want the very cheapest of anything, you get the no-frills version. For instrument shopping, the no-frills cheapest price is online, with no demonstrations, no chance to try before you buy and certainly no personal aftersales. If you want all of the above, you should pay a shop price.

Continue to complain and very soon there won't be that option.

I just got this very irritating e-mail from Dolphin Music:

"Sound Control/Turnkey go into Administration.

After many months of speculation and rumour it has been revealed today, 30th April 2008, that Sound Control, including Turnkey, have gone into administration.

At least 10 stores have already closed and unfortunately 100+ staff have been laid-off. At this time we have no further information, but what is quite clear is that any new or existing orders are unlikely to be fulfilled.

We take customer service very seriously at Dolphin Music, so in view of the demise of Sound Control, we will be increasing staffing levels this week & this weekend to ensure that we can meet the increased demand.

In view of the serious impact these events could have on customers who have placed orders in good faith, Dolphin Music would like to offer an advice service to any worried Sound Control or Turnkey customers. Anyone seeking advice on how to cancel a Sound Control or Turnkey order and ensure that they receive a refund should call the number below and one of our advisors will be happy to assist.

Any customers planning to make a purchase from Sound Control or Turnkey are equally welcome to call Dolphin Music and we will match or better the price offered by them.

For Sales or Advice please call Dolphin Music Sales: 08** 815 **88

Finally, the Dolphin Music team would like to express sympathy for all the staff that have lost their jobs as a result of these unfortunate events."

...pretty opportunistic of them. Bastards.

SamL4 is an unknown quantity at this point
If a buyer isn't found in the 90 day period. Will they be selling all the stock off on the cheap?

A trade auction is a much more likely proposition than a massive "Closing Down Sale" type public free-for-all.

I am really sorry to hear about this. A fair few years ago when me and my brother first started playing our parents took us up to Sound Control to get our starter gear and advice on what equipment would be effective and cheap for learners. Over the years i have found the staff to be friendly and helpful (and quite honest as well) about buying and trying out new equipment.
