1. Manic Street Preachers- one of the few bands you can actually get attached to now. They were legendary when they came out and the '4-real' incident is still the stuff of legend today (especially the look on Mary-anne Hobb's face at the side of the photo!). They changed with every album and the Holy Bible is the most magnificent piece of lyricism EVER- it talked about everything; anorexia, suicide, the holocaust, fascism, imperialism, prostitution, punishment, the lies of America's foriegn policy etc.- it left no stone unturned. Although not my favourite period in their career, they did magnificently with the 'Everything Must Go' albums to turn themselves into the biggest band in the UK. Maybe not biggest now, but always best
2. Green Day- set the standard for another pop-punk bands (and none of the current US bands have come close, including Blink)- yet to make a bad album (unlike the Manics even) 3. Weezer- this will change, cos i have 2 favourites and then it's a bit of a blur- they are fuckin outstandin |

3: The Living End - noone has ever been able to make rockabilly and punk sound this cool. Chris Cheney is an awesome guitarist and songwriter.
2: Alkaline Trio - The finest dual songwriting band on the planet, matt and danny's completely different styles compliment each other so well. 1: Green Day - like Miko said, the standard bearers for modern pop punk music, and the responsible for the majority of current pop punk bands ( altho thats not always a good thing). Amazing songs, amazing live act. Also hugely influential on my other two picks my list may be a little too conventional.. but these 3 bands play the sort of music I like.. so fuck it .. i dont care |

starting line have some decent songs... but theyre pretty standard modern day pop punk fare.. theyre not doing anything new or different.. they do sound pretty much identical to NFG, but they are doing it slightly better than most bands (ie simple shite, allister
) |
