Eating my words from the rampage thread, lol...the 360 is great....just got one there from the missus for christmas and gears is fantastic.
I find myself though expecting great things somethimes so when a glitch happens etc, it feels like a letdown. Also, Just Cause...Fantastic fast playing, stunning looking game, s'pecially up in the choppers, but the bastard has crashed twice on me now. Looking forward to getting back online, really wanna go live with it likes, looks like thats where alot of the fun in it lies. |

Yeah, a lot of the new games that are coming out feature heavily online components. I think it's a shame that alot of the games rely on the online side of things to gain the achievements but i guess its the direction the industry is going. Gears is great online, so is Project Gotham Racing.

I really like the achievements thing. Some of them are lame though. Burnout has an achievement just for playing an online game, which is pish, because you've not really achieved anything by selecting a menu option.
I think the best games for achievements will be sandbox games like GTA or Crackdown. I think most people have tried to do something in a game that isn't a main part of the game, like see how far you can fly off one of the stunt ramps in GTA. It's cool when the game rewards you for stuff like that. In Crackdown we've got a couple of achievements that reward the player just for messing around and doing cool stuff, which I think makes the game a lot more fun than it would be otherwise. I alos think gettiong achivements also gives the games that added reply value aswell. Does the amount of achivements gained give you any sort of bonus or have any effect when your playing live?

I don't think so. It's more of a credibility thing i guess. The achievements is good for reply value like you said. I wish such a thing was around when games like Goldeneye were about. That was the first game I ever completed 100% with all the bonuses gained.
Here is more info on the processor upgrade that the 360 will be getting at the start of 2007. Sounds good to me.

Shame that.
It could have been good in terms of giving gamers a reason to go all out and get as many achivements as possible. Just finishing off the last of just cause now aswell. Fairly easy game, liberating Citys has proven harder than some of the main story missions mind you. |
