Skate.
Anyone else playing this at the moment?
I traded in a few games to get this for the whole price of £5 and it's actually pretty good! A lot more realistic than the Tony Hawks series (you bail if you hit a kerb etc) but from that it is a much more enjoyable gaming experience. I've done a few challenges but most of my game time has been spent just skating and hanging out at different spots tryi.ng stuff out. One of the best features of the game is that everything is recorded and if you want to show everyone your amazing clip then you can upload it via xbox live to the Skate reel on the EA page. I was fully intending to post some pictures and movie clips of me that I've just been taking but as per usual from EA, they have fucked that up and no-one can access their account to let them login and share videos and pictures. This isn't gonna stop me playing it but I was really looking forward to being able to view the videos I've just made on the pc and bore all my mates with them! |

Played the Demo and the Hawk demo back to back to see what one was worth getting. Alough Skate is tricky getting the hang of, Hawk is well...just another Hawk game. Same Graphics, same tasks, same system. They even had to rape nail that trick and put in nail that grab because they couldnt come up with something original.
Skate looks Nice and feels fresh and well, i think it's good, we have to learn the "skate" game from scratch again. |

It is a steep learning curve because everyone is used to the TH control system, I mean even the Matt Hoffman and Dave Mirra games had pretty similar control systems to Tony. Saying that, it's an EA game so I only expected full use of both analogue sticks, because this is something they seem to have been applying to all their sports games recenty!
The best thing about this is, because it's so realistic you can have a lot of fun just testing out different approaches to a set of stairs and a rail! I spend about half an hour trying to get up a disabled access ramp and kickflip over the handrail and land in a nose manual on the bench at the other side. It was great fun! |

Never played any Tony online but its pretty much the same as the game, races, jams, s.k.a.t.e. but the problem is lag, really makes you want to curse microsoft for making us pay to host our own games.

I just got it the other day and am really enjoying it, although my bag of tricks seems to be doing a ollie or nollie and waggling both joysticks around randomly as i keep forgetting what each one does, also it takes me about half an hour to line myself up for a basic grind, but its all part of the learning process i recon. good stuff.

I'm the same, I keep forgetting to hit up on the stick to "release the ollie" (so to speak) and playing skate with a dude called Eric (I think) is impossible because I simply cannot move my analogue stick in that way.
I've played online and it was pretty cool. I watched some people skating about and felt good about it because I was a bit better then them so I had more confidence to try it myself and I was just skating about in someone elses game, then I left. I've only tried freeskate though! |
