Ufc 79
Anyone watch it? I caught some of it on Bravo+1 last night/this morning.
Here are the full results: - Georges St. Pierre def. Matt Hughes via submission - Round 2, 4:54 - Chuck Liddell def. Wanderlei Silva via unanimous decision - Eddie Sanchez def. Soa Palalei via TKO - Round 3, 3:24 - Lyoto Machida def. Rameau Sokoudjou via submission - Round 2, 4:20 - Rich Clementi def. Melvin Guillard via submission - Round 1, 4:40 - James Irvin def. Luis Cane via disqualification - Round 1, 1:51 - Manny Gamburyan def. Nate Mohr via submission - Round 1, 1:31 - Dean Lister def. Jordan Radev via unanimous decision - Roan Carneiro def. Tony DeSouza via TKO - Round 2, 3:30 - Mark Bocek def. Doug Evans via unanimous decision I'm a bit upset that I didn't get to see the whole event, mainly so I could see Manny from TUF 5 fighting! Oh, also Sukoudjou v Machida! I was surprised that Chuck won, mainly because I never realised how unorthodox his punches were! |

Chuck/Silva was an awful fight, it bored me. didnt see any of the other matches but Silva was way hyped during his enterance and offered very little for me.

yeah, he's been on the down recently I think, but hopefully someone can correct me if that's right because I've not really paid attention to outside of UFC previously!

Yeah he has been. I loved the Liddell / Silva fight, purely cos chucks one of my fave fighters and i was happy to see him win after his last 2 losses. Silva was taken to hospital after the fight cos he wasnt able to stand up or anything when they got him back and cleaned him up.
The GSP vs Hughes fight was a good brawl like. GSP totallly dominated and kicked his ass. Its rumoured that it could be Matt Hughes last fight The Machida fight was ace aswell. Last edited by Severed666 : 31st December 2007 at 02:26 PM. |

Well, slight delayed reaction but here's my take on UFC 79:
Overall, a fantastic event and possibly my favourite of the year. First off, Clementi beating down Guillard went exactly the way I was hoping. Guillard is a thug and if you know any of the back story between them it made Clementi tapping out Guillard all the more enjoyable! Machida vs Sokoudjou. This was probably the fight i was most excited about. Two fighters who are on the cusp on being great, but in need of a little validation. I was sitting watching this with my Machida t-shirt on so I was more than happy when Machida took him down and proceeded to work him over and win with a sick Arm Triangle ![]() Sanchez/Palalei I saw as the one fight letting the event down. No way it should have been on the main card. Any of the non-televised bouts would have been a better choice. There's only word to describe the Liddell vs Silva fight. WAR! That was a classic battle and left me with the utmost respect for both fighters. I had feared Liddell's days as a top tier fighter might have been over, but he came back and proved his worth here. If it was anyone other than Silva he was fighting, he would have notched up another KO win for sure. Silva is a fucking rock! And last, but by no means least, George St Pierre vs Matt Hughes. GSp just completed schooled him. I'd picked him for the win but had no idea it would be THAT convincing. Complete domination! |

some good bouts ahead in the mma world, lets hope nogera woops ti m sylvia but sylvia will probably bore his way to the belt by usuing a defensive jab,
Mochida has been offered to fight tito ortiz, mochida has agreed but tito is thinking it over as he is on the us apprentice right now,the one i,m personally looking forward to the most is dan henderson v anderson silva, i,m tipping dan to pull it off |

I'd go for Anderson Silva over Dan Henderson personally but it is a mouthwatering fight either way!
Instead of Silva V Liddel UFc could have shoved two old truckers in that octagon and no-one would have noticed the difference except the fight may not have lasted as long as it did if it was truckers. What a bore like, If I wanted to watch a slugfest I'd watch underground boxing or something, When I watch MMA I want to see mixed martial arts. ![]() |
