Whammy Bars on Les Pauls?
Does anyone know if it's possible to get a floyde rose or any other whammy bar put onto a les paul, or how much it'd cost? I love my Les Paul but I want to do some crazy manowar solos and shit. And I don't want to buy an Ibanez or a Jackson. It's a Gibson Les Paul Studio if that makes any difference.

STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dont do a thing to it! Christ man, its a Gibson! It is possible to fit one, but you will have to saw out a section of your guitar to fit it. Even then it will still be pish because the tension of the gibson necks will be all wrong so the tuning till be all wrong, and there is the danger of snapping the neck!!! The only thing that may work would be a bigsby trem, but even then, you will still have to drill in to your beautiful Bibson. If you were to get one fitted, it would have to be done by a professional, which, for major work like that would be expensive. if you want to fanny about with a whammy bar, just get a cheap strat for £100 or so and fit descent pick ups, the build quality will be almost as good as £300(ish) jacksons etc... it will only be the components that differ. Please dont destroy a nice guitar. |

Haha, oh well. Looks like I'm gonna have to buy another guitar. I'll probably just spend £500ish on a decent ibanez. You may be thinking I'm a rich bastard but it's all down to the amazing power of the student loan.
Cheers for the help. |

I was lucky with the gibson, it was my dads. He never really played it so when I went down to his last xmas he gave me it. Black with gold hardware, it turns me on quite a bit i must say.

and attaching a bigsby would be an insult, why not just go the whole hog and play it through a 15w crate solid state aswell? if you really want the whammy bar stuff then go for a fender strat, and seeing as you`ve got a gibson (£1400 mark i`m guessing) i`m assuming you can afford a £900 odd usa strat. or get a highway1 strat for £599. did i mention that strats are simply better? (edit: ibanez? ibanez? nooo dont waste your money! remember at all times fender>ibanez) Last edited by off he goes : 27th November 2003 at 03:34 PM. |

I don't mind teles or sg's.
I played a nice Ibanez in sound control when I was trying out my overdrive pedal, £599 i think it was. Strats sound a bit too weak I reckon, and I find the necks qutie annoying. I don't really need another guitar 'cos my les paul's more than good enough, I just want to learn to use a whammy in my solos. |

i assume you already have things like phase/delay effects and a wah pedal to spice up your solos? nothing beats wah (apart from taste). |

I don't really use pedals 'cos they're a bit of an annoyance onstage. (I'm shit with my feet) I just use a boss metal zone MT-2 and that's it. A wah's not a bad idea though.
If I do get a new guitar I wouldn't stop playing the Les Paul, that'd just be madness! |
