guitar problem!
the screw in the top strap pin of my guitar keeps unscrewing itself, it's like the thread inside the wood is wearing away or summin and since i kinda throw my guitar around a bit onstage its pretty important that the strap stays on to stop some unsuspecting punter getting a guitar across his chops.
i had the same problem with another guitar and tried to remedy the problem by putting a bigger screw in the hole, this only lead to the wood cracking and the paint coming off around it! iam looking of a way of fixing this problem without having to tape it on or fucking up all the paint etc by putting in a bigger screw (unless there is a way of doing this without all the damage?!) somebody suggested getting a screw which is meant to hold strong in conditions where it would be agrivated by movement etc? but i don't have a fucking scoobie where to get a hold of these and i'd feel like a twat trying to explain it this all to mr B&Q man at the shop. help. |

ok my brother is kinda a joiner and what he says is............
get some wood glue and fill the hole with it get a few matches and take the blue bitty off pack the glue packed hole with them till its totally chocka leave it a bit to dry and set(like a few hours or however long it takes) put the screw back in and when the screw pushes the matches out to the sides they will basically form really tight against one another aswell as the glue and your screw will be totally solid. he did it for a mate and the thing just doesnt budge now, 100% solid!!!! |

what i think you should do is fill the hole with some match sticks and then put the screw back in... should hold perfectly.

this wasn't by any chance an epiphone les paul?
![]() happened to me last year, and every time i pick up a guitar now i check to see if they're coming loose, just out of habit ![]() The more permanent option is go to a hardware store and get one of those pastes that dries hard like concrete... fill the hole and when it's set just drill a new hole. |

yeah it was a les paul.
i think the problem with the les paul is that it is so heavy and all of the weight is basically held on the top strap pin, but the match thing worked..it hasn't moved at all since i did it. who wants to buy my pants? |
