i am a telecaster player and i don't play country EXCLUSIVELY, however on occasion i have been known to play country, jazz, hardcore/grind, and various other genres/sub-genres of music. I can get the heaviest thickest doom sound from one of my teles that i have ever heard SERIOUSLY, and that's with single coils. The finest guitars to grace this earth are the fender telecaster, with the stratocaster a close second (SG/es335 come a close third) for versatility of tone, texture and note definition. Telecasters are second to none whether overdriven or clean. Of course, these are my opinions, but there are a lot of people who will agree with them.
Regarding buying a telecaster, there has been a lot of negative press about the quality control at fenders american production facilities, i haven't experienced a "bad" new guitar from fender USA so i can't comment. Buy a guitar from a reputable, independent dealer and have it set-up before you buy it, and you won't be disappointed. Regarding Japanese instruments, i regard them very highly. You can get a brand new japanese standard telecaster from £329 from this link: http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/inde...=data_home&a=0 You know it makes sense. |

Look, I'm really sorry but my mate wants to buy a Marshall MG100HDFX head and he is going to spend £190 on it. For whatever reason, he is only looking to spend £200 on a head. Can anyone that knows about these things tell me if A. this is a good head and B. if this is a good price for it.
I know "good" is subjective etc but he plays punk music and he doesnt play clean too often. hopefully thats a good description. probably not. |

Its not a very good amp IMO, its alright, but nothing special
Looking for a cheap amp head? For not much more you can get some second hand trace elliot valve heads. They are rareish second hand over here, but the Peavey Classic 30 head is also a very nice amp head. I have the combo version and it cost me £200 second hand. 30 watts in an all valve amp is pretty loud, louder than you'd think! There are also cheaper places to buy fender japan guitars, there is a great japanese retailer that sells them, and ill try and find the link! (im sure ive posted it about these parts before) |

I said to him "look, I know nothing about guitar heads but if you get a brand new one for £180, it's probably not too great" I guess I was right. I think he should get whatever it was we used at robins! |

Even the £145 Crate head is better than the Marshall MG100 Head.
WAAAAAYYYY But yeah, so it's not very good. You would be better to buy nothing and save the money towards something usable rather than fritter it away on solid state Marshall (or any cheap solid state) product. |
